Fencing is an intense workout experience for any one of any skill level. Few sports can match it for the exercise that it provides the user.

There are several reasons why it is so intense. Firstly, endurance and explosive bursts of power are expected from the legs, which will constantly be in motion as an individual maneuvers up and down the track.

The arm holding the sword will obviously be worked as well, building physical strength as it clashes with the opposing sword and from the sheer effort involved in holding a piece of metal upright for extended periods of time. Due to the positions associated with correct posture, the abdominals and chest will be worked as well, since the match will be fought from a slightly hunched position.

Sessions can last as long as the players can fight without scoring points, which also requires endurance and conditioning to be most effective. This quickly will build the body, since it has little choice but to adapt.

Although it has a steep learning curve and is a very difficult sport to master, fencing can be quite fun. Few other options offer such an immediate and gratifying feeling of success and exhilaration as swords clash and opponents do their best to weave their way through a defense screen and thrust forward for a point.

It is also a very sociable game to play, because of the immediacy and closeness to a challenger. While this may cause feelings of resentment and vengefulness in a few, most recognize the skill in their opponent and appreciate the effort invested into becoming proficient with a sword.

Fencing is also a desirable option because of the inherent uniqueness of the sport. Few other options have such stringent guidelines and rules, not to mention that few other sports require the same degree of tactical thinking while wielding a weapon.

It allows for interesting conversations to be had when fencing is brought up in discussion, because many who are familiar with the sport will be impressed and mystified by modern sword fighters in the modern era. This allows a sense of purpose and uniqueness to permeate the individual and increase self esteem as well.

Fencing is an excellent way to improve overall fitness levels, because of the intensity of the workout it delivers, as well as how quickly a person begins sweating and losing weight when weighed down by padding. It also is a fun skill set to acquire, and is one of the rare sports that combines competition, socializing, and swashbuckling into one experience.

This is again to be performed for a set period of time, but a shorter period than was taken to carry out the relaxed speed exercise, thirty seconds for instance. The idea behind HIT is you alternate between the two speeds and their times, for a set period of time, ten minutes for instance. Doing a minute of a relaxed jog, then a 30 second sprint, followed by the 1 minute jog etc, on and on until the 10 minutes are up. This works your body harder than jogging for 10 minutes at a consistent speed, and discovered in recent university research, your body still feels the effects and carries on working out even after you’ve finished performing the exercise, maximising your workout even more.

Other exercises to perform using this method and which also require no gym or money are cycling, swimming, performing sits ups, squats, burpees, star jumps and press ups. Team sports also come recommended, as there often more pleasurable than exercising on your own, nevertheless they may need more organisation.

Runflat  tyres are extremely difficult to fit but all of our mobile fitting units are equipped to fit them. They are more expensive than standard tyres and once you puncture them they are designed to drive for 50 mile or so. After you have driven on them they must then be disposed of. You cannot puncture repair them.

 

Space saver wheels are limited to 50mph and only have 3mm of tread. A new standard tyre is typically 8mm of tread. They are also limited to 50mph.

 

The newest technology is the continental seal tyre.

This tyre has an additional belt inside the tyre which is effectively a “soft latex or bitumen” type compound. If a nail pierces the tread you simply pull it out and the bitumen seals the hole. However it does not work on cuts in the tyre.

 

A few years ago a product called Ultraseal was marketed which was extremely good. You put a measured amount in the tyre when it was fitted. Effectively if you have a puncture the compound leaks through the hole and permanently seals it. The ministry of defence used this product and tested it on bullet holes!! The repair is permanent enough. It was ideal for caravan tyres ie a flat tyre on on a box you are towing on a motorway can be frightening. Ultraseal was causing problems on low profile high speed tyres because of centrifugal forces but these did not affect caravans which are limited to 60mph.

 

Another product in the market is TYRON bands. These are metal bands inserted into the tyre to stop it totally deflating and in some respects allowing you to carry on driving, Similar to runflat tyres technology. However they are time consuming to fit and the tyre fitters quickly moved away from these.

 

All of the above technologies have flaws and at some point you are going to be stranded on the side of the road without a spare tyre. Just call the local mobile tyre fitting to come and rescue you.
