Physical Fitness & You

fitness

Physical fitness is to the human body what fine-tuning is to an engine. It is not a race, it’s a pursuit. In its most general meaning, physical fitness is a general state of good physical health. It is a foundation for a long and successful life.

Physical fitness is usually measured by periodic tests measuring strength, endurance, agility, coordination, and flexibility. Physical fitness is the capacity of the heart, blood vessels, lungs, and muscles to function at optimum efficiency. It has two meanings – General fitness (a state of health and well-being) and specific fitness (the ability to perform specific aspects of sports or occupations). Physical Fitness is important, even on bed rest.

A general-purpose physical fitness program must address the following essentials: Cardiovascular Fitness: It is the ability of the circulatory and respiratory systems to supply oxygen to muscles during continuing physical activity.

Regular exercises enable more blood to be pumped with each stroke of heart.

Flexibility Training: Stretching increases the range of motion of a joint. It improves suppleness.

Strength Training: Strength training is the use of resistance to muscular contraction to build the strength andsize of skeletal muscles.

Muscular Endurance: Endurance is the ability to exert for a long period of time. In humans, it is usually used in aerobic and anaerobic exercises.

Body Composition: In physical fitness, body composition is used to describe the percentages of fat, bone, and muscle in human bodies.

Fitness

Fitness, most importantly cardio-respiratory fitness, has been directly correlated to the mortality rate.

Fitness can be described as a condition that helps us look, feel, and do our best. In previous years, fitness was commonly defined as the capacity to carry out the day’s activities without undue fatigue. These days, physical fitness is considered a measure of the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist diseases, and to meet emergency situations. Many sources also cite mental and emotional health as an important part of overall fitness. This is often presented in textbooks as a triangle made up of three sub-sections, which represent physical, emotional, and mental fitness.

Physical fitness involves the performance of the heart, lungs, and muscles. And, since what we do with our bodies also affects what we can do with our minds, fitness influences to some degree qualities such as mental alertness and emotional stability.

People normally prefer walking for fitness activities followed in order by: swimming, fishing, bicycle riding, camping, golf, bowling, exercise equipment, hiking, hunting, aerobics, calisthenics, jogging, and tennis. Women prefer fitness-related activities and men prefer outdoor sports.

The top level of physical fitness tends to mesh physiology and psychology. The exercises improve function of the muscular and skeletal systems, enhance circulation, augment energy and elevate overall individual levels of fitness. The level of physical fitness can be influenced by regular, systematic exercise.

As energy depends on nutrition, proper nutrition is important to physical fitness. If diet is not adequate, the fitness level will drop. Overweight, underweight, and weak individuals will have below average fitness levels.

Exercises

Exercise that doesn’t raise your heart rate to a certain level and keep it there for 20 minutes won’t contribute significantly to cardiovascular fitness. It is better to select exercises that involve total body involvement. Such exercises improve and maintain fitness most effectively — e.g. Running, swimming, golf, dancing, cycling, and brisk walking. The correct exercises will help you decrease body fat and increase or maintain muscle mass. By performing many different exercises for a low number of repetitions, the muscles are strengthened, elongated and toned without creating bulk. Total concentration on the body during each exercise emphasizes movement quality, coordination and breath.

Health

Healthy people have more active and more interesting life. Physical fitness can also prevent or treat many chronic health conditions brought on by unhealthy lifestyle or aging. To stay healthy it’s important to participate in physical activity. Even those of us who haven’t always led active lifestyles, increasing our physical activity now will help us live longer & healthier lives.

To live a full and healthy life, exercise must be a part of it. It is the ability to endure, to bear up, to withstand stress, to carry on in circumstances where an unfit person could not continue, and it is a major basis for good health and well-being. A physically fit body has less chance of acute health problems and chronic disease.

Major Benefits of Physical Fitness

1. Reduce chance of heart attack and stroke
2. Reduce the chances of developing adult onset diabetes
3. reduced chance of being overweight
4. Being able to efficiently manage stress
5. More energy

Fitness Program At Home

fitness

The first year of work on fitness and Muskeln.de has a lot of interesting articles about fitness exercises at home produced. As we thought, why not even create it into a beautiful fitness program at home.

This fitness program is the intensity of her very simple and is therefore ideal for beginners and people who are not accustomed to regular exercise. If you’re new to the exercises in this section, run over just the name of the exercise with your mouse and go to make a little guide appears.

You need to train conceivable bit. Only a fitness mat should be provided to you. But it is also without!

An equally important recommendation before you start: To increase your motivation to something, you should insert a good CD. Music can do wonders for training.

The fitness program should be in a period of 60 – to be played through 70 minutes to ensure the effectiveness of the program. The program is essentially structured in 5 phases of training.

1. The heating
2. The mobilization
3. Strengthening of the muscles
4. Relaxation

Warm-ups

The warming is the first stage of your fitness program. This phase is extremely important not only for this program, but in almost all serious training, a proper warm-up duty to ensure effective training and to minimize the risk of injury.

The warm-up exercises we complete within 8 – minutes 10th We do this both to running exercises as well as exercises that are performed in the hopping.

Let’s start with running: Look in your home with a range of several meters length (so 5 – 8 meters) and walk them up and down. You rotate the first alternate for left and right arm, then with both. While the arms rotate yet, start with the running knee to move to the top.The whole always change step. After 3-5 minutes we stop the running and get to the Hpfbungen.

The jumping course should be undertaken only if you have no problems at the joint or.Apparatus have cartilage.

In essence, we make the bouncing puppets in different variations. Again, we put back on the arms and have them rotate in different ways to heat up as many muscle groups.

The mobilization

The mobilization is to make, essentially, with simple exercises, the joints mobile. Again, we turn again in 50-10 minutes of time and perform the following exercises in a circuit. Before each exercise, we do 14 reps per run.

Inversion
Pull shoulders back and
Own head (lateral)
Shoulder Lift
Own head (front and back)
Arms sideways town red (this stretch arms length and move in together)
Lunges

Strengthening of the muscles (intensity: simple, focusing chest, legs, abdomen)

Now it can get down to go and we start with the exercises to strengthen the muscles.Strength training, we have also built in the form of a cycle. That means we do the exercises from top to bottom. 3 series should be feasible, three runs of all exercises.

Sit-ups (15 to 20 reps)
Calf Raises without weight (especially effective on a feasible step, 15 – 20 reps)
Squats (15 – 25 times)
Push-ups with bent knees
Relaxation

The last phase is to carry out simple. To relax we lay flat on his back for a while and breathe deeply in and out.

Crib Fitted Sheet

What Is Crib Fitted Sheet

A crib sheet is usually a fitted sheet that is used on crib mattresses. These sheets come in a variety of fabrics, patterns and there can also be some differences in crib fitted sheet sizes. You may have to look for special crib fitted sheet if you have a round crib, a port crib or travel crib. It’s also a good idea to put something below a crib fitted sheet, like a mattress cover or a puddle pad, because babies are prone to night time accidents and wetting, which can endanger crib mattresses.
What are the types of crib fitted sheet to use?

Basic crib fitted sheet types for standard sized rectangular cribs are easy to find and can be relatively inexpensive. You will pay more for the crib fitted sheet if you buy certain designer sheets, and if thread count on the sheets is higher. Most parents look for sheets that are 100% cotton, and these can be conveniently priced.

One recent new type of fabric offered is cotton knit, which can be soft and easy to place on a mattress. Other fabrics used are typically flat cotton materials without stretch or cotton flannel. Cotton tends to be preferable because it’s durable and breathable. Sometimes stretch cotton and cotton flannel annoy parents because the material can pill and baby can get fuzz in his or her mouth. Washing the material several times may help get rid of any fuzz, though pilling usually increased with frequent washings.
What are the precautions which should be taken buying crib fitted sheet?

Unlike sheets for larger beds, the crib sheet is a fitted sheet only. You usually don’t use a top sheet on a baby, though some parents may prefer it. Actually, it’s recommended that you not overwhelm babies with tons of blankets, especially comforters that are filled. Too much bedding in babies’ beds is associated with a higher incident of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), because it is thought that some babies may have their faces or nose blocked by heavy comforters.
What kind of designs should be chosen in crib fitted sheet?

In terms of style and patterns, variability in design is likely to satisfy a vast number of nursery design schemes. You’ll find many pastel crib fitted sheet colors and many that will coordinate with other nursery fabrics or designs that you like. You can find crib fitted sheet styles with licensed cartoon characters, though it should be noted that infants are unlikely to fully appreciate these; older children may definitely enjoy bedding down for the night with a favorite cartoon or TV character. You can also use fabric you choose and make your own crib fitted sheet if you would prefer

Are You Fit?

Thursday, February 16th, 2012
fitness

I’ve always thought the word “fit” is over used in the “fit”ness industry. I mean, what does being “fit” actually entail? If we take three different individuals:

Powerlifter

Marathon Runner

Housewife

A power lifters sporting discipline requires them to lift as heavy a weight as possible once. Competitors at the top of this sport are very strong, but put them on the running track and see how far they can run… not very! But does this mean that they are not fit?

A marathon runner can run long distances and maintain a constant speed over a long period of time, they are certainly aerobically capable but ask them to lift a weight. My guess is that the weight that they lift will not be that heavy… so… fit or unfit?

A housewife/husband may not participate in any form of organized exercise, however, they can spend their days cleaning, lifting, walking and generally being very active, but couldn’t survive a session in the gym.

Where would you place them on the fitness spectrum?

I don’t think that we can use the term “fit” as it doesn’t really exist, what we do mean though is “fit for purpose”. So if you compete as a power lifter, you will be fit and proficient to lift weights. If you are a footballer, you will be fit and proficient to run in short bursts and have good co-ordination.

What if you don’t participate in a sport but just want to be fit and healthy? Here are the four areas of fitness that I work with my general health clients.

Strength
You should be strong enough to bear your own body weight, whether it be working out with weights, resistance bands or your own body weight, you should be performing resistance training at least three times a week.

This with strengthen and define your muscles and increase bone density and joint stability.

Flexibility
Each time you exercise, you should engage in an all over body stretch, this will decrease the risk of injury and allow you to be more mobile.

Cardiovascular
This involves exercises such as running, cycling, swimming, rowing etc. depending on your fitness goals, the times and intensity varies but for general health, a 20 – 30 minute session should suffice, however as previously stated, this can change dramatically as your fitness goals change.

Mental
Not often thought about but total fitness to me is about getting the grey matter working as well. This would involve developing yourself through reading and learning, choosing the right company and relationships, setting fitness and non fitness based goals for yourself and achieving them.

Taking all four areas into account will form the basis of a fully healthy, well rounded and balanced individual.

In the next few minutes with your permission, I am going to send you a digital copy of my brand new hot off the shelf Bones To Buff muscle building program.Grab A Copy Click here
This new system is absolutely killer! It reveals how anyone, especially beginners, can pack on huge slabs of muscle in as little as 5 Weeks.
Im 100% certain you will gain muscle on even your most stubborn to grow body parts.
Most weights in the gym were way too heavy for me and I didnt know where to start or even what to do with them!
There was no information that served the skinny guy looking to gain weight…
I mean sure there was lots of muscle building information for the average guy but I was not average, I was a hardgainer and the tips the bodybuilding magazines were giving just weren’t working for me.
And when I did gain weight, the only part on my body that seemed to get bigger was the size of my stomach.Grab A Copy Click here
And while my belly gradually got bigger, my budget kept getting smaller as I continued buying every miracle supplement that promised nothing short of bogus claims like 10lbs of muscle in only 3 days!.
You see, even though I struggled and had to learn the hard way, I dont regret it completely because that is what fuelled my desire to design a program that would build rock hard muscle in the least amount of time for those who needed it most.
Not enough changes in program variation is bad and too many changes in program variation is worse! The Bones To Buff system is just right.
You do need to be changing variables in your program but you need to do it the right way.
The 5 week workout cycle provides weekly program variations but also provides consistency to track and measure your progress. You get the best of both sides of the coin!
The 5 week cycle plan includes 3 speficic mini phases of training that each trigger a different metabolic demand.
The three phases involve training that will tap into the Oxidative, Glycolytic and Phosphagen systems to produce the energy output required in your workouts.
By training using all three energy producing systems, you have 3x more growth potential. Your muscles wont know what hit them!

Piping And Plumbing Fittings

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Materials for fittings

The ‘bodies’ of fittings for pipe and tubing are most often of the same base material as the pipe or tubing being connected, e.g., copper, steel, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) ie; Flowguard or PlatinumXCELL or other plastic. However, any material that is allowed by code may be used, but must be compatible with the other materials in the system, the fluids being transported, and the temperatures and pressures inside and outside of the system. For example, brass-bodied fittings are common in otherwise copper piping and plumbing systems. Fire hazards, earthquakes, and other factors also influence fitting materials.

Common fittings for both piping and plumbing

While there are hundreds of specialized fittings manufactured, some fittings are used widely in piping and plumbing systems.

Elbow

A pipe fitting installed between two lengths of pipe or tube allowing a change of direction, usually 90 or 45. The ends may be machined for butt welding, threaded (usually female), or socketed, etc. When the two ends differ in size, it is called a reducing or reducer elbow.

Most elbows are available in short radius or long radius of types. The short radius elbows have a center to end distance equal to the NPS in inches, while the long radius is 1.5 times the NPS in inches. Short elbows are universally available; long elbows are readily available in Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS, plastic), PVC for DWV, sewage and central vacuums, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) and copper for 1950s to 1960s houses with copper drains.

Street elbow

A variant of the elbow, typically of male to female connections; see Street elbow.

Tee

A tee is used to either combine or split a fluid flow. Most common are tees with the same inlet and outlet sizes, but ‘reducing’ tees are available as well. Tee-fittings are also an integral part of the computer-enthusiast level watercooling solutions found in many modern enthusiast PCs. The fitting is one of the three main components of a T-Line, alongside an end-cap or fillport and a length of tubing. They are plumbed into the system, with the perpendicular barb (and its attached stretch of tubing leading to a fillport or a cap).

Cross

A cross has one inlet and three outlets, or vice versa. Crosses are common in fire sprinkler systems, but not in plumbing due to their extra cost as compared to using two tees.

The three outlets should be named in order; left, middle , right. For example 15-22-15

Cap

A type of pipe fitting, often liquid or gas tight, which covers the end of a pipe. A cap has a similar function to a plug. In plumbing systems that use threads the cap has female threads.

Plug

A plug closes off the end of a pipe. It is similar to a cap but it fits inside the fitting it is mated to. In a threaded iron pipe plumbing system, plugs have male threads.

Nipple

Short stub of pipe, usually threaded iron, brass, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC)or copper; occasionally just bare copper. A nipple is defined as being a short stub of pipe which has two male ends. Nipple are commonly used for plumbing and hoses, and second as valves for funnels and pipes.

Additional common fittings for plumbing systems

Closet flange

The closet flange is the drain pipe flange to which a ‘water closet’ (toilet) is attached.

Clean-outs

Clean-outs are fittings that allow access to drains without removing plumbing fixtures. They are used for allowing an ‘auger’ or ‘plumber’s snake’ to ‘clean out’ a plugged drain. Clean-outs should be placed in accessible locations throughout a drainage system, and outside the building as these augers have limited length. The minimum is typically at the end of each branch, just ahead of each water closet, at the base of each stack, and both inside and outside the building in the building drain/sewer. Clean-outs normally have screw-on caps. Clean-outs are also known as ‘rodding eyes’ from the eye-shaped cover plates used on external versions.

Trap primers

Trap primers regularly inject water into traps so that water seals are maintained. This seal is necessary to keep sewer gases out of buildings.

Combo-Tee

A combination tee (combo tee) is a tee with a gradually curving center connecting joint. It’s used in drain systems to provide a smooth, gradually curving path to reduce the likelihood of clogs and to ease pushing a plumber’s snake through a drain system. The “combo” is a combination of a wye and a 1/8 bend or 45 elbow.

Sanitary Tee

A sanitary tee is a tee with a curved center section designed to minimize the possibility of siphon action that could draw water out of a trap. The center connection is generally connected to the pipe which leads to a trap (the trap arm).

Double Sanitary Tee (Sanitary Cross)

Similar to a cross. This fitting differs from a standard cross in that two of the ports have curved inlets. The fitting has been used in the past for connecting the drains of back to back fixtures (such as back to back bathroom sinks). Some current codes (including the 2006 UPC) preclude the use of this fitting for that purpose. Instead a Double Fixture Fitting is required.

Wye fitting

A type of waste fitting tee which has the side inlet pipe entering at a 45 angle.

Hydraulic fittings

Hydraulics use extremely high fluid pressures to create useful work, such as in the actuators for machinery such as backhoes. As such the hydraulic fittings are designed and rated for much greater pressures than those experienced in general piping systems and they are generally not compatible for use in general plumbing. More information on hydraulics and their fittings can be found in the hydraulic machinery article.

Types of Connections

Threaded Pipe

A threaded pipe is a pipe with screw-threaded ends for assembly.

Coupling

A coupling connects two pipes to each other. If the material and size of the pipe are not the same, the fitting may be called a ‘reducing coupling’ or reducer, or an adapter. The term ‘expander’ is not used for a coupler that increases pipe size; instead ‘reducer’ is used.

Union

A union is similar to a coupling, except it is designed to allow quick and convenient disconnection of pipes for maintenance or fixture replacement. While a coupling would require either solvent welding or being able to rotate all the pipes adjacent as with a threaded coupling, a union provides a simple nut transition, allowing easy release at any time.

In addition to a standard union, there exist dielectric unions which are used to separate dissimilar metals (such as copper and galvanized steel) to avoid the damaging effects of galvanic corrosion. When two dissimilar metals are placed in an acidic solution (most tap water is mildly acidic), they will form a battery and generate a voltage by electrolysis. When the two metals are in contact with each other the current from one metal to the other will cause a movement of ions from one to the other, dissolving one metal and depositing it on the other. A dielectric union breaks the electric current with a plastic liner between two halves of the union, thus limiting galvanic corrosion.

Solvent Welding

A solvent is applied to PVC piping that dissolves and fuses the adjacent surfaces of piping. This is used with a sleeve-type joint.

Soldering

Flux is applied to the inner sleeve of a sleeve type joint. The joint is then heated using a propane or MAPP gas torch, solder is applied to the heated joint, and the solder is drawn into the joint as the flux vaporizes.
